It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The top summits have long been mastered.

This is the team that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to another six T20 titles, and once went nearly four years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, targeted by the peak baggers, are the only things left for a side that has won it all.

The fact it required up to Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase exceeding 300, regaining their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, in truth, a tribute to the bowlers that have sported the yellow jersey over the past 50 years.

It's difficult for their batters to hold a record if not provided the opportunity.

Finally, the outcome of Australia allowing 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy receiving an opportunity to produce her newest gem.

Originally famous as the young family member of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her nation failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has seen it all through 15 successful years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup came three months after her debut and seven world titles have come from 10 efforts across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India temporarily stopped the successful run.

That loss "motivated us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy said this week.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the final and was awarded tournament MVP. She ensured her country would not come up short.

Whether this newest brilliant performance topped that previous effort remains open for discussion.

Some will argue the reasoning behind the pressure of a final. Different voices suggest with the challenge that comes when confronting a historic chase and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's clear is this hundred was considerably tougher to anticipate.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 occurred when she led the batting statistics, but this performance followed six innings in India since the start of last month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've been watching me in training, it's been a disappointing period because it seemed I lacked timing at all," commented Healy.

"But once you take the field, your competitive instincts take over and you just lock into the contest."

Healy's competitive nature has always been her major advantage - and an irreplaceable characteristic in taking over from legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, out to the 22-year-old seamer in each encounter, but here that only provided Healy's spark.

One run resulted off Gaud's first delivery and from there the batsman was underway.

"The possibility to play and lock in a contest with her and simply enjoy myself that way, somewhat inspired me," commented Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 deliveries - her fastest at the World Cup - and her hundred in 84 balls as she attacked short-pitched balls, striking 21 boundaries and three sixes.

Once she was dismissed Australia needed 66 more at run per delivery - a manageable total now needing a comfortable finish.

"Pursuing 330 is uncharted waters so I'm pleased we have the belief to achieve that now," added Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, if we do, we believe we can achieve it."

These statements will be the ultimate thing competing nations at this World Cup need to hear.

In recent days a sense they will win from any position has grown stronger - this success coming after victory over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite struggling at 76-7 at one point.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a meeting with old rivals England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final place may probably be guaranteed.

It was at that stage they were eliminated from the previous year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy couldn't play because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the first time at a major tournament.

So great is her will, she subsequently stated she regretted not playing despite the injury.

Yet even as she afterwards confessed those fitness problems have delayed thoughts of retirement, this World Cup is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in 50-over cricket and she is still to achieve a global event as skipper.

Victory in India would bring her to the top of her last major obstacle.
